Introduction
The Mann Award for Women is intended to give its recipient a significant career boost by providing them with an educational or developmental opportunity they would otherwise be unlikely to enjoy. Each year a bursary of £10,000 will be awarded to the successful candidate.
The Mann Award for Women has been set up in memory of Patricia Mann OBE who died on Friday 15th September 2006.
Patricia’s contribution to the advertising industry and to the world of business was significant and widespread. A lifetime employee of JWT, she started out in 1959 as a secretary and was swiftly promoted to copywriter before becoming Vice-President of JWT International and the first Head of External Affairs in 1977.
She was the first woman Officer of the IPA, a Fellow and a valued member of Council. She held the position of Hon. Secretary from 1980-1983 under the Presidencies of Mike English (1981) and Chris Hawes (1981-83). She was also an ASA Council Member for 14 years.

Vice-President of the History of Advertising Trust (HAT)

In 1977 she earned the Advertising Association’s Mackintosh Medal for public and personal service to advertising.
Eligibility
The Award is open to women of any nationality and based in any country.
It is a bursary which will be given to a senior woman who has spent at least ten years working within the communications industry in a marketing, media or agency company.
The successful candidate will have shown herself to be a high achiever with the potential to make a major contribution to business and the community, while providing a positive role model for other women.
The Award will not be payable to the successful applicant personally but will be paid to an agreed institution, company or body which will be responsible for the developmental opportunity.
The Mann Award
There will be three Awards of £10,000 each to be given in 2009, 2010 and 2011, based on the current fund.
It is hoped that the successful recipient’s employer will match the sum of the Award.
The Entry Process
Candidates must submit their applications to

An application comprising a 1,000-1,500 word description of what form of further educational investment they wish to make and why their career would benefit from it.
Three 300-500 word supporting statements from their chosen nominees, one of which must be from the CEO or other Director of their primary employer, and two of which should be drawn from previous employers, teachers, friends and family.
Their CV setting out their full academic and employment records of achievement and other relevant information.
If match funding has been secured from the applicant's employer a letter to this effect from the employer should be included with the application form.

The Judging Process
There will be a two-stage judging process:
Stage 1
At stage 1 all the entries will be read and voted on by a panel to produce a shortlist of no more than three candidates. The panel will comprise the Trustees of the Mann Award for Women, the heads of three key trade associations, and the Editors of leading Haymarket magazines for the advertising, marketing and media industries:

Stage 2
At stage 2 the winner will be chosen from the shortlist provided by stage 1. The second stage judging panel will read the short-listed applications and vote on them. These votes will be collated and provided to the judges in advance of a forty-five minute panel interview with each candidate. The panel will comprise:

Timetable
Thursday 10th January 2008, Award announced at The IPA President’s Reception, 44 Belgrave Square and website open for entries.
Friday 28th March, closing date for entries.
Friday 25th April, stage 1 judging completed, shortlist announced and shortlist candidates notified of stage 2 judging date.
Friday 2nd May, three shortlisted applications sent to stage 2 judges.
Friday 30th May, stage 2 judging panel in the morning followed by lunch and final decision on the winner. Stage 1 votes will be made available for reference. Winning candidate informed (in order to meet Business School deadlines if appropriate).
22nd/23rd/24th September, winner announced publicly and invited to IPA president's reception.
8th or 15th January 2009, Award announcement included in Moray McLennan's speech at the IPA President's reception. Winner and judges all invited.
